Patient Testimonials – Orthotics

26 May 2016
I started to get some serious pain from my knees when I ran so I visited the physiotherapist who took one look at me and felt it was bio mechanical and referred me to see Foot Pain Centres of Leeds.
He agreed and explained, very clearly, where the problem was coming from and what we could do to stop it. He demonstrated that the knee pain was coming from my foot position but showing me some pressure points and how painful they were, then he moved my feet to the correct position and there was no pain when those points were palpated.
So some orthotics were made. I am now running pain free and and don’t worry about my knees when I run at all.
It’s fantastic what a simple change can make to me.

My daughter loves ballet, but was becoming increasingly frustrated with pain in her feet after class often making her stop or sit out of part of the lesson.
As Foot Pain Centres of Leeds pointed out every twist and turn her body was making to try and relieve the pressure coming from her feet, he explained what was wrong and how this was affecting her whole body. After that it all seemed so simple, orthotic insoles were cast (a process most enjoyed by daughter). A number of visits to the centre and exercises to complete at home (that has been the hardest part).
That brings us to today, her spine is aligned, hips are square, and most importantly a confident happy daughter who is enjoying ballet again, and becoming more confident with other sports as she no longer tries to avoid doing anything on her feet.

After weeks of ignoring the fact that something was wrong with my left foot I finally succumbed to visiting the doctor who directed me to Foot Pain Centres of Leeds.
I had a burning sensation between my third and forth toe in the ball of my foot plus a numbness of the toes.
Jonathan at Foot Pain Centres of Leeds knew straight away by my description exactly what the problem was. I had a Neuroma caused by inflammation of nerves around my 3rd and 4th toes. He realigned my foot and ankle, which was painless, and then took plaster casts of both feet. I had Orthotics made and the centre took time to explain how to use them correctly. Within a few weeks my foot has no pain, no numbness and I can walk, run and exercise with ease. Providing treatments that work!

I consulted Foot Pain Centres of Leeds about foot pain caused by running ultra distance marathons, they quickly diagnosed my problem which was related to foot alignment and over tightened calf muscles and tightness on the outside of my lower legs. He also identified a limited range of movement in my heal joint caused by the incorrect foot alignment as it struck the ground in my usual running gait. They recommended orthotic inserts, stretching and physio at the Ilkley Valley clinic.  Four months on from wearing the inserts I am completely healed and running faster times than I have ever run before now I have the correct foot alignment and full range of movement in my ankle joint which was fixed by the orthotic inserts and a short course of physio.
I would definitely recommend and use again, worked magic on me in a short time frame and correctly identified my lifelong issues with my feet in just a few minutes of watching me run – amazing!

I consulted with Foot Pain Centres of Leeds about a painful heel and they quickly and correctly diagnosed Achilles Enthesopathy. I addition they spotted some previously unidentified foot problems that been with me since birth. They were able to perform some manipulation which allowed the foot to move as freely as it should and recommended the use of orthotic insoles specifically designed to ensure that my feet were correctly aligned. Plaster casts of my feet were made by the centre and within two weeks the insoles were supplied and ready for wearing in. In the meantime I had a couple of sessions with a physiotherapist who recommended a series of exercises which I did at home to strengthen the appropriate muscles. Once the insoles could be worn full time and the muscles had been built up, I was in a position to resume my hobby of taking long walks in the Dales and over the Pennine Moors. All this happened about three years ago and there has been no recurrence of the problem in that time. The treatment was totally successful. If I have any other trouble with my feet, the clinic and orthotics service will be the first people I will turn to.
